terms
the rules for using birds.place. they are short, and the important one is that this is a place for birds you saw.

using birds.place
birds.place is a way to log birds you have seen and to look at birds other people have seen. you bring your own AT Protocol account; we do not create one for you. you must be 13 or older.
what you post
your sightings are yours. you keep every right you have in your photos, video, recordings and words — we claim no ownership of them and we do not license them to anyone. you are posting them publicly to the network, so by logging a sighting you are asking for it to be readable by anyone, including through apps that are not ours.
post only media you captured yourself. a photograph someone else took does not belong on a sighting, even a good one, and even with credit.
what does not belong here
there is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. do not post:
- sexual content, or anything sexualising a minor
- violence, gore, or threats against anyone
- harassment, bullying, or targeting a person
- hateful content aimed at people for who they are
- illegal content, or content that infringes someone else's rights
- spam, scams, or advertising
- anything that is not a bird you saw
this applies to photographs, video, recordings, notes, and species names alike.
reporting and blocking
every sighting page has a report this sighting link, and you can block or mute any account. reports come to a person, and we look at each one within 24 hours.
blocking is public and lives on your own account, so it works in other apps too. muting is private — the person muted is never told.
what we will do
if something here breaks these terms we will remove it from birds.place, and we may stop an account from appearing here at all. we will do this without warning when the content is egregious.
one limit worth being honest about: your records live on your own account, not on our servers, so removing something from birds.place stops us showing it — it does not delete it from your account or from anyone else's copy of the network. only you, or whoever hosts your account, can do that. if we cannot reach content that needs to come down, we will contact the host.
your account
you can revoke birds.place's access at any time, from here or from your account host. you can delete any sighting you have logged from inside the app. we did not create your account, so we cannot delete it — that is between you and whoever hosts it.
no warranty
birds.place is provided as-is, with no guarantee that it works, stays available, or keeps anything safe. it depends on services we do not run. do not treat it as the only copy of anything you care about.
changes
if these change materially, the date above changes and the new version appears here.
